The Podcast is Having Problems

Posted by admin

For some as-yet-unknown reason, the podcast is down, at least to those attempting to play or download the episode using the podPress plugin. I’m working on the problem, and I hope to have things back up and working soon.

Update: Everything seems to be okay again. Apparently, podPress 8.2 breaks when statistics logging is turned on.

Friday’s Meetup

Posted by admin

WordCamp is going swimingly, except for the WiFi dying 5 minutes into the first session. I’m slightly bummed that neither Matt nor Dan mentioned the podcast, but then again, this weekend is about WordPress, not the podcast so… I’ll get over it.

The meetup last night was a whole lot of fun, as was the pre-party.

WordCamp 2007 Update #1

Posted by admin

I’ll be arriving in San Francisco for WordCamp sometime Thursday morning, and I’ll try and keep you updated as to what’s happening and what’s being said there through updates here on the blog.

This first update details:

  • The WordCamp Report has been set up as a way of letting attendees share their experiences with each other and with those WordPress users unable to attend.
  • Aaron and I will host a meetup of podcast listeners at the Crossroads Cafe (Google map) at 1 P.M. on Friday afternoon. Some of those who have mentioned they might visit with us include Matt Mullenweg, Mark Jaquith, Kris Smith, and Patrick Havens, just to name a few. The cafe offers coffee, beer, wine, food, art and WiFi… everything a computer geek needs, and it’s very close to the Embarcadero and Pier 38, near where the Automattic pre-party is rumored to be held. We also might try and record the conversation for inclusion in a future episode of the podcast.

Install a Local Web Server on Mac OSX

Need a place to test your website before you show it to the whole world? Don't always have an internet connection but you'd love to spend that time tinkering with your site? A great way to work and test things out is to install a web server right on your own computer. This way you work offline and if you mess things up you can just start over again without taking your site down or futzing with FTP and/or SSH.

This video will show you how to easily install a web server on your Mac using MAMP. MAMP is a bundle of all the tools you will need in one package: Apache, MySQL and PHP. We'll walk you through downloading and installing it and then we'll go through some basic set up to get you up and running.

MAMP is a Mac-only application but the plan is to create videos with similar packages for other operating systems.
